5 Karate Moves to success

This week’s challenge is inspired by the Johnny Karate Super Awesome Musical Explosion Show (featured on Parks & Recreation). You’ll get one entry into the raffle for each “karate move” you send us a photo or video of you completing.

Make Something - If you it’s something you can make, it counts! A piece of art, food for you/ your family, even your bed!

Learn Something - Do research about something you are interested in or even share something you learned in an online class.

Karate Chop Something - No karate chopping people or animals (unless they give you permission and you are careful not to hurt them!). Be creative with this one!

Try Something New (Even if it’s Scary to You) - Now is a great time to try something new. It can be a brand new activity to you or something within that discipline that you haven’t tried before (ex. maybe you’ve done yoga before, but you haven’t tried a specific position).

Be Nice to Someone - We all could use some positivity right now, so do something nice for a friend, family member, neighbor, anyone! This could be anything from a simple note to make their day brighter to completing a household chore or even making them a small gift. There isn’t a wrong way to be nice!

Save a Galaxy Really, Really Near

Send photos to (828) 263-1770, Staff@MountainAlliance.org, or WitmerR@WataugaSchools.org

You don't need to travel to a galaxy far, far away to make a difference! This week we are challenging you to "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Re-purpose, and Repair" to make a difference right where you are. Send us photos of you implementing these practices to be entered into a raffle that will be held at the end of the week. You can receive one entry for each day you send us a photo and will receive a bonus entry if you send us photos of you doing all 5!

Reduce - Cutting back on the amount of trash we make. Pack your food in a lunchbox instead of a disposable bag. Bring your own bags when shopping. Turn off lights when you’re not using them at home. These are all ways to reduce waste!

Reuse - The action or practice of using an item, whether for its original purpose (conventional reuse) or to fulfil a different function (creative reuse or repurposing). Reusing items rather than simply recycling them saves time, money, energy, and resources. For example, you can re-use a jar once it’s original contents have been finished to store other items.

Recycle - The process of converting waste materials into new materials and objects. Check to see what items can be easily recycled where you live. Click here to view information for the Town of Boone.

Re-purpose - Using something for a purpose other than its original intended use. Re-purposing an item can be done by modifying it to fit a new use, or by using the item as is in a new way. Click here for some unique examples of re-purposing.

Repair - Fixing or mending something that has been broken or damaged. This could range from a hole in your clothing to mechanical issues in a car!

*We know some of these may be a longer process, so you are also welcome to take a picture of/ with an item and tell us how you plan to utilize one of these concepts (i.e. how you plan to re-purpose or repair it)
