Employment and volunteer Opportunities
Experiential Programs - Volunteers and Instructors
Mountain Alliance provides a variety of outdoor experiential and service learning opportunities for high school students. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of teens through these avenues.
Volunteers - We are always excited about getting new people involved in our programming for teens. If you are interested in being a positive role model for high school students through fun and unique experiences, we would love to meet with you! Volunteer skill levels can varying from little/no knowledge in our programming areas to almost ready to be checked off as an instructor. No matter where you fall on this spectrum, reach out to us to discuss if this is a good fit for you!
Instructors - We are seeking individuals with experience in outdoor experiential settings with knowledge in one or more of the following areas: caving, climbing, hiking, biking, backpacking, canoeing, ropes course facilitation, team building facilitation, and skiing/snowboarding. Previous experience working with youth is a plus. We are also interested in individuals who are excited about leading youth in a variety of service experiences.

School’s Out - tutors, mentors, and volunteers
School’s Out is an after-school tutoring and mentoring program run by Mountain Alliance after school in Avery and Watauga Counties. To learn more about School’s Out, click here.
Tutors - We are in constant need of tutors at our after school tutoring and mentoring program, School’s Out (especially in Math)!
Mentors - We also need individuals who are reliable, positive role models that can help run the day-to-day operations of School’s Out in addition to engaging with students in both formal and informal settings. Individuals should be excited about working with youth and able to assist the School’s Out director with running the program.
Volunteers - Volunteers can function in tutoring and mentoring capacities, as well, but may have a lower commitment level to the program. Volunteers may have opportunities to move into paid tutor and mentor roles if they demonstrate reliability, commitment to the program and students, and the ability to be a positive role model while assisting in the implementation of School’s Out programming.
